Solar Farm on Limecrest Road

This is an ongoing series of "Where was I taken" images, mostly in Sparta NJ. This one was taken on June 27th, 2025 from Limecrest Road (also called Houses Corner Road in that area) in Sparta.

This solar farm contains approximately 10,000 panels and was approved by the planning board in 2017 with work beginning in 2018. It provides 3-4 Megawatts of power and is operated by Braen Quarry. More detail can be found in the New Jersey Herald article.

The Braen Quarry was originally known as the Limestone Quarry, founded in 1906 by Thomas Edison. One of the oldest quarries in NJ,, this site holds NJ Mining License # 7. Minerals extraqcted here are primarily granite and limestone. Edison created the quarry to support his pre-fab concrete construction business, with the limestone as a primary ingredient for creating the concrete aggregate. Today, there are two asphalt plants onsite and was one of the contractors that paved Newark airport. Source: https://www.braenstone.com/locations/sparta-nj/
