Where am I in Sparta (#8, Nov 2025)

These large and well used construction equipment were found on Houses Corner Road , just in front of the Nicolack plant (formerly Grinnell Recycling). Behind them is a large solar field, better seen in the images below.

Nicolack is a hardscape and landscape firm, headquartered in Lindenhurst Long Island. According to their website, Nicolock is one of the region’s top producers of hardscape materials, with distribution centers in New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, and soon, North Carolina. Yet despite that expansion, the company remains firmly grounded in its Long Island origins.

How did they start?

“Sante Nicolia, an Italian immigrant, came here in the '50s and started his own ready-mixed concrete company in 1959. ‘When he passed away in 1990, my father and his brothers were looking for ways to expand the business and decided to start Nicolock.’ (Gino Nicolia, VP, Nicolock Paving Stones)”.
