Creating a silky effect with LIVE photo on your iPhone!

Live photo is more than just a short motion picture. Did you know you can also take an artistic shot, that slows down the motion and makes water look smooth as silk? Take a look at this shot, taken with my iPhone 15Pro. With a DSLR, a tripod and

To create this image, you need to start with Live photo turned on. If your's is not on all the time, you can set it lin the camera app. LIVE photo includes about 1.5 seconds before you snapped the image up through 1.5 seconds afterwards, for a total of about 3 seconds! The number of actual frames vary, depending on the motion detected.

To get this effect, you need to take a photo with motion. This particular shot was taken at the waterfall at the spillway of the Walkilll River in Franklyn Park, Franklyn NJ.

In the photos app, this is what the shot looks like. It is the key photo that Apple picked to represent this Live photo. Selecting Info indicates that it stopped the action at 1/622 of a second, F2.8 at 77mm. It was either the 2x or 3x lens, I don't remember.

To create the silky version, open the Photos app and press on the Live photo button and a menu with several choices will open up.

Next, select the Long Exposure menu choice.

The "Long Exposure' choice effectively merges all of the individual images. To get the best shots, be sure to rest the iPhone on a rock or a tripod, so all of the images get the same view.
