Much of the world counts down New Year's Eve with the ball drop in Times Square in New York City.
While I have never been in Times Square to see this, nor will I ever, we often visit NYC during Christmas week or even on New Year's Eve to see the crowds and the sites, but we are always out of the city well before midnight.
This shot on the left was taken from the 30th floor penthouse at the Reuter's Building, located at 3 Times Square in New York in late 2015 during an event that i was attending the week before New Years.

The times square ball rides the pole in the center of the shot; the ball is hiding behind it on the bottom right of the LCD "Welcome to New York City" sign. This electronic billboard rotated through 20 or 30 different signs and animations, but this is the one I liked the best.
The green building in the background is the MetLife building on Bryant Park, which was rename Salesforce Tower in 2016.
This shot (right) was taken more recently, on New Year's Eve 2024..
