More Q & A's

Before you start your photo shoot, you should ask any and all questions you can think of.  Make sure you understand the process, how your photographer thinks of a shoot, and you want to make sure that the two of you align on goals..

How should I think about my message?

Consider your audience and message you are sending.  If you are looking for a job, you want to show confidence.  Do you want to appear like an executive?  In a power position?  Or more of a technical role?  More relaxed?  It's up to you.

What if i don't know how to pose?

YES, I will guide you on how to pose, how to smile, and do so in a way that emphasizes your best features, and minimizes those you are uncomfortable with.  We will look at the images during the shoot so we can improve the shots as we go.

What does a headshot shoot cost?

A professional headshot shoot costs $990.  This includes hair and makeup, about 60-90 minutes of shoot time, multiple outfits and poses, and two fully edited digital images.  Additional images are $250 each (or less if purchased as part of a collection).

I also offer a quick headshot for $450.  This includes 20-30 minutes of shoot time and one image.  Hair and make-up is not included.  Additional images are $250 each.

Do I really need professional hair and make-up services?

Unless you are a professional make-up artist, I highly recommend that the ladies take advantage of our complementary hair and makeup service.  Makeup will be applied the way you like it, but adjusted for the photography lighting.  The lights impact the way the camera sees you, so your standard approach to make-up application may not be ideal.

Why does a headshot cost so much?

Your headshot is the first image someone sees of you.  And that first impression can help or hurt you!   You may think "what's the big deal" since it will be for an ID card, LinkedIn, your company's team website, or your business card, but in reality they provide a message to the viewer.  And while you can take a selfie and use that, there is no comparison to a professional headshot.

How do I pose for a headshot?

Your head should be turned toward the camera (not a profile view), with your body angled and perhaps your head tilted slightly.  The idea is to create a flattering and authentic look.   A headshot image is generally cropped  from the top of the head to just below the shoulders or mid chest level.  Smiles are ok, but not a big wide laughing look (unless that fits the message you want to deliver!)

How many outfits should I bring?

Multiple outfits are encouraged - perhaps a formal look (jacket or sweater over a nice shirt).  I usually suggest two or three tops. Plus a more casual look.  Bulky outfits and loud patterns are not recommended.  Clothing do's and don'ts will be discussed in the pre-shoot consultation (either in person or via a video call).

What's the dfference between a headshot and personal portrait shoot?

A headshot shoot is designed with one purpose in mind - to get that perfect first impression shot for your professional life.    The personal branding shoot can include a headshot, but it is a more expanded portrait shoot designed to capture your personality.

Both start out with professional hair and makeup for the ladies.  This is a MUST to look your best.  Professional hair and make-up is a complementary service provided in my studio and usually take around an hour.  By the time you are finished with this, you will be feeling relaxed and ready to go!

Headshots are typically used for website team pages, LinkedIn, business card, photo id badge, etc.  They are an upper torso, from mid-chest to the top of your head.  Expressions are not overly expressive and rarely bring out your true personality.

Personal portraits or branding shoots are so much more!  While they can be like a headshot from a posing viewpoint, your expression, hand and body positioning are all different - they are SUPPOSED to show your true personality and often expressing laughter, enjoyment, contentment, etc.  Of course, if you also need a headshot, we will be sure to include that as part of the shoot.  This is the best alternative if you are creating a modeling portfolio, portraits for a dating site, celebrating a milestone, or just want to get some great photos of yourself!

What does a maternity shoot cost?

Maternity photoshoot costs are based on the number of images and or the final products you choose, including digital portraits, wall art, albums, or portfolio boxes (these are museum quality matted prints in a designer box).  Pricing incudes the pre-shoot consultations and clothing guidance, professional hair and makeup services, photographer time, portrait reveal (image review), and even help in designing a wall art gallery.  Total investment starts at $1990 (including the session and a collection of eight fully edited digital  portraits).
